New Belgium Brewing –“We’re here to do more than just brew beer” In Krull and Company’s Investing With Your Values interview series, host Peter Krull interviews New Belgium Asheville’s Susanne Hackett about sustainability and brewing. “We’re here to do more than just brew beer and we’re here to do more than just operate a business,” says Hackett. New Belgium’s attention to the environment and actionable plans have set a standard in the brewing industry. “We believe in…improving our sustainability practices on a daily basis,” Hackett states. For example? When choosing their second home in Asheville, New Belgium had an opportunity to use what they learned in Fort Collins and apply it to a new physical space and revitalize it. They worked to redevelop a brown field, and consulted with a landscape design firm that has helped them implement “some pretty cutting-edge stream daylighting and water catchment processes” on the site. Susanne regards New Belgium’s employee-owned status as a way of furthering fair practices and strengthening the team. “Being employee-owned allows everyone to be involved in the decision-making process.” Being a B-Corps company also maintains security in the future as well as in their values system.
