One of our favorite things to do here at the Brew Review Crew is to play around with the notion of pairing high quality craft beer with some excellent food to make an outrageously good pairing or two. We have even devoted part of our site to bringing you the very best in Food and Beer pairings .
Recently, Negra Modelo reached out to us and asked us if we would be interested in learning more about their newest initiative; pairing Negra Modelo with high quality food to make an excellent pairing and terrific meal. Though Negra Modelo may not be considered craft beer, who are we to turn down the opportunity to give it a try? The fine folks over at Negra Modelo were kind enough to send us a truly lovely gift box that included a miniature cutting board, two branded tulip glasses (they must know we value proper glassware) and a box of four high quality Butcher meat rubs and spices from the incredible Spice House out of Chicago.
Accroding to Negra Modelo themselves, “Negra Modelo’s built to pair really well with good food. The beer’s roasted caramel malts, combined with great local fare, create a fiesta of flavor that few other beers are able to stand up to. We celebrate this great harmony with gold-foiled bottles and unique, gold-rimmed glasses, specially designed for drinking.”
We took the kit to our studio, and recorded a short review of Negra Modelo for all of you interested in our take on a “non-craft” beer.

According to Bayless, his partnership with Negra Modelo came about fairly organically after traveling through Latin America and discovering that Mexican and Latin food needed a strong beer to pair with the intense flavors of the cuisine. Said Bayless, “”Negra Modelo beer, combined with great local fare, creates a fiesta of flavor that few other beers are able to live up to.” He continued, “this partnership allows me to not only give foodies a taste of how to enjoy the best beer, but also inspire them to share their own complement to Negra Modelo, from a homemade Brava steak dish to an unexpected night out with friends.”.
Our actual review of the food and Negra Modelo beer pairing is still to come, so stay tuned for that. In the meantime, please check visit Negra Modelo online to access some great recipes and pairing ideas, and to learn more about the Mexican brewed Vienna lager that many have come to love.
