Falling Down Brewing Company
Reviewed by Ron DeGregorio
This past summer, I went to the Michigan Brewers Guild (http://www.mibeer.com) annual summer festival in Ypsilanti, MI. It was an amazing time and an incredible chance to try out some killer beers from Michigan’s best and brightest breweries. Obviously big named brewers such as Founders, Bells and New Holland were all present, serving their always incredible beer to the masses, which was terrific, however; it was discovering new breweries that was most rewarding for me. Falling Down Beer Company was one of those newbies that I was thrilled to meet.
Falling Down is an absolute infant in the craft beer scene in Michigan. Starting this past March, they are under a year old. Already, however, they are serving up some of THE best beer in Michigan. Upon meeting them at the festival (mind you, they were only three months old) I was lucky enough to try their Cherry Wheat, which was probably the best cherry beer I’ve ever had. I was instantly enamored with the “American Dream” story they told and could not wait to visit them at their brewery in Warren. This past weekend, Cory and I got that chance.
We sat at Falling Down speaking to co-founder, George (pictured) for well over an hour. He allowed us to enjoy a flight or two of their brews, and I can honestly say with all sincerity that every last one of the ones we sampled were A brews. They are very flavorful and well crafted, you are doing yourself a gigantic disservice if you don’t try some.
George still has a full-time job in the business world and has turned his once-hobby home brewing passion into a full-fledged business that is thriving. Falling Down not only brews outlandishly good beer, but they have a great menu as well. George offered us some egg roll Reuben snacks which were delicious. They paired so well with all of his beers, but none better than his DIPA (double IPA).
Even though they did not have the Cherry Wheat on tap, I was pleasantly surprised by just how high quality his other beers were. I would say my favorite of the evening was the Poco Coca; a rich dark beer that was roasty, had lovely chocolate hints and was an all around terrific stout/porter. Truthfully, all of the beers were wonderful, and I’d rate them all very highly.
If you are ever in the Detroit-Metro vicinity, you are obligated to get yourself out to George and our new friends at Falling Down Beer Company. They are everything that is awesome about our world of craft beer. They are a passion that has turned into a business and an inspiration to anyone with a goal and a dream and work ethic.
