Choc Lobster – Lobster Ale Getting Wider Distribution

In this week’s Brew Review Crew: On Tap Podcast, we are going to talk about beers that trolled the world.  One of those beers is a Lobster brew that made Ron’s stomach flip.  Leave it to Dogfish Head to take that idea, and not only make it a reality, but make it widely available for us to try! That’s right, Dogfish Head has created a dry porter brewed with basil, dark coco, and lobster dubbed, Choc Lobster.

Choc Lobster is a different take on crustacean beers.  These beers typically give a slight briny, salty flavor to the beer that many people find appealing.  This is what founder Sam Calagione had to say about the flavor of Choc Lobster.

The DFH website says that:

Choc Lobster is a dark porter with notes of bittersweet chocolate and roast, with a slight herbal nuance and a subdued taste of the ocean in the finish. It brought home a Silver Medal in the Indigenous/Regional Beer category at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival.

Unfortunately, this crustaceous creation is not going to be bottled for national distribution, but if you want to try Choc Lobster for yourself, it may be coming to your state.  It will be released at Wold of Beer locations in Dogfish Head distribution areas, and limited amounts will be sent to Portland, Maine, and to the 3 DC area Dogfish Alehouses.  The release is Friday, August 7th, and if you happen to be at the World of Beer in Reston, Sam will be there to tap the first keg of Choc Lobster at 7 pm.

We’d love to hear what you guys think of this off-centered ale, I think it might be delicious, Ron has reservations, but I’m sure one of you will get the chance to try it.  If you do, comment below what you thought!

Cheers!
